Illawarra People who served in WW1

Undoubtedly the South Coast Waratahs recruiting march in November - December 1915 has certainly captured the public imagination - with about 116 men enlisting - click here. However there were many more Illawarra people who served in WW1 than those in the South  Coast Waratahs recruiting march.

Note – the Illawarra WW1 Roll of Honour can be found here.

Illawarra Military Historian and long time Illawarra Family History Group member, Terry Bugg, has been compiling an extensive database of over 4000 names of people associated with the Illawarra who served in WW1. It was hoped that this database might have been incorporated into the early stage of the Illawarra Remembers project, ready for the 2015 Centenary year. However this has not proved possible.

Thus the Illawarra Family History Group will be providing some basic information, until  more complete information is able to be incorporated into the Illawarra Remembers project website. Additionally the Illawarra Family History Group are considering the production of a CD to cover all service personnel with Illawarra connections, which would be available for purchase in the future.
